Daniel Levy slammed over Son Heung-min transfer news coming out of Tottenham

Son Heung-min confirmed his status as a Tottenham legend in the 2024-25 season, and could now leave on a high note this summer.

Son struggled to hit his best form over the course of the campaign, but ended his 11th year as a Spurs player with his first bit of silverware.

Tottenham could now sell Son this summer as they aim to revitalise their attack, but no decision has yet been made.

However, a new development has now emerged over Son’s future, and chairman Daniel Levy has been slammed as a result.

Levy slammed over Son exit delay

It now appears that Tottenham are ready to sell Son this summer amid interest from Saudi Arabia, but there is set to be a delay.

This comes as a result of Tottenham’s upcoming pre-season tour to South Korea, where Son is idolised by fans.

Son being on the tour will generate a lot of commercial income, and Levy does not want to sell him before in order to maximise the revenue, in a move which has been criticised by Spurs fans.

“This is the most Daniel Levy headline I’ve ever read,” one posted in response to the news on Tuesday (17 June).

“Commercial decisions over the team,” another posted, with many agreeing with that sentiment.

Tottenham need top-quality replacement for Son

If Son is to leave, then Spurs will need to act quickly in the market to replace him, which is why this development has not gone down well.

Waiting another month before allowing Son to leave will delay any search for his replacement, and this commercial decision will hinder Thomas Frank’s ability to bed in a new winger signing during pre-season.

Son was far from his best level, but still scored 11 times and provided 12 assists in all competitions, and a top-quality replacement will be necessary as Spurs aim to compete in the Champions League next season.

If Son does leave this summer, Tottenham will earn a fee for him, but if they wait too long before finding his replacement, then they may suffer on the pitch as a result.

Bryan Mbeumo has been linked with a move, but Tottenham will have to beat Manchester United to his signature, and this delay over Son could put this potentially huge transfer in jeopardy.
