Tottenham fans turn on Pochettino after bombshell new admission – ‘Shut up’

Ange Postecoglou has struggled at Tottenham this season, but a victory against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League has surely secured his future for now.

The Lilywhites sit 13th in the Premier League and only have the Europa League left to play for this term, which has left plenty of questions surrounding Postecoglou’s future.

Spurs had to come from 1-0 behind and beat AZ Alkmaar at home on Thursday (13 March) to progress in Europe and keep their hopes of a trophy alive, which they achieved with a 3-1 victory on the evening.

Mauricio Pochettino eyes Tottenham return

Even though Tottenham have progressed, with nothing else to play for this term, many have argued that it would be a failure of a season for the Lilywhites if they don’t win the Europa League.

With that in mind, Daniel Levy could well choose to part ways with Postecoglou if the worst happens with the boss being unable to live up to his record of winning a trophy in his second season.

However, if this did happen, Spurs have got a man already in waiting – despite him already having a job.

Former boss Mauricio Pochettino told talkSPORT (13 March) that it is his “dream” to return to Tottenham one day and certainly did not play it cool in expressing how much he would like to come back.

Although he is currently in a role as the manager of the USA national team, should an opportunity arise, it sounds like the 53-year-old would be jumping at it.

Tottenham supporters scathing about Pochettino

Pochettino may have taken Tottenham to the Champions League final but when he was sacked, the Lilywhites were sitting 14th in the Premier League table, not far off where they currently are, leaving some supporters questioning if a return would be any good.

Furthermore, given Spurs were facing a massive game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just hours after these comments were made, there have been some questions about the timing of it.

As a result, despite the former boss’ love-in, supporters have urged Pochettino to “shut up” and “move on” with their club having bigger fish to fry currently.

With Tottenham getting themselves back into the game and progressing through to the next round of the Europa League, it seems that conversations about managers can quieten in North London.

Even if they don’t win the competition, there is no guarantee that Postsecoglou will find himself out of a job either, so no one can get too ahead of themselves here.

For those that aren’t keen on a Pochettino return, the fact he has the World Cup with USA in 2026, any potential return is more likely to come in the distant future rather than be an immediate fix.
