Tottenham fans react to Isak and Gray incident v Newcastle – ‘Total Disgrace’

Tottenham fans have dubbed an incident between Alexander Isak and Archie Gray a “total disgrace” during the 2-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.

The 18-year-old played the full 90 minutes, having to partner with Djed Spence after Radu Dragusin’s half-time substitute, going up against Isak, Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy on 4 January.

While he is naturally a midfielder, Gray has been deputising in the centre of defence, earning rave reviews from Spurs fans for his adaptability, and now he has earned even more respect following a coming together with Isak.

The Newcastle forward refused to walk off the pitch when being replaced by Joe Willock, an incident that saw him booked for timewasting, forcing the teenage prodigy to leap into action at Hotspur Way.

One supporter suggested that referee Andrew Madley should have awarded a red card had the striker not run off the pitch while another labelled the makeshift centre-back a “real asset”.

A third fan aimed a dig at Isak, stating he has “the heart of a frozen pea”, though most of the comments from Spurs fans praised their own player for dealing with the situation.

Without Gray, Ange Postecoglou would be extremely stuck for centre-back options, with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies all sidelined, and Dragusin now possibly joining them.

The 18-year-old is extremely versatile and clearly open to playing any position, just like he was under Daniel Farke during his breakout season at Leeds United.

Spurs are in a very difficult period as a club, with the manager currently under crushing pressure to turn things around, and it shows the character of each and every player in the squad.

As for Gray, he is clearly ready to step up and lead, putting many of his teammates to shame and trying everything possible to be a positive light in an otherwise dark time for the Lilywhites.
