Vertonghen tipped for behind-the-scenes Tottenham return as announcement made
Jan Vertonghen could return to Tottenham to take up a coaching role after a brand-new announcement was made.
It looks set to be a summer of change in North London, with Ange Postecoglou’s long-term future incredibly uncertain.
Should Daniel Levy decide to sack Postecoglou, Mauricio Pochettino could make a return to Tottenham.
The Argentine is arguably Spurs’ greatest manager in the modern era, and plenty of supporters will have fond memories of the 53-year-old’s time at the club.
Vertonghen was one of many players who flourished under Pochettino, and there is a chance that both could make a return to Tottenham to work alongside each other.

Vertonghen makes big career announcement
Talk of a potential Pochettino return will no doubt bring back plenty of fond memories of Premier League title races and a UEFA Champions League final, especially given Spurs’ current predicament.
However, this is an era which is now long gone, further emphasised by Vertonghen announcing on Tuesday (25 March) that he will be retiring from football at the end of the season.

Son Heung-min and Ben Davies are the only players of note from the Pochettino era who remain at Tottenham. However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested that Vertonghen could potentially return to North London in a behind-the-scenes capacity.
“I think it will depend on whether Postecoglou remains or a new manager comes in,” King said.
“However, Vertonghen would certainly be an asset, because of his knowledge and playing career. I’d imagine that he has been doing his coaching badges because he seemed the type of person who would like to continue in football after his playing career was over.
“It wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring somebody like that back to the football club, that is for sure. Knowledge is a great thing, and Vertonghen has got plenty of it.
“I think it would be a feel-good move too, Vertonghen had a very good career at Tottenham.”
Vertonghen could lift the mood at Tottenham
While it wouldn’t be a huge appointment, bringing Vertonghen back to Tottenham could lift the mood behind the scenes at the club and would no doubt please supporters, considering their connection to the Belgian.
Therefore, if Vertonghen is in a position to take up a coaching role once he retires, Spurs should be offering him a chance to do that in North London.
