Tottenham urged to sign Škriniar ahead of Galatasaray as talks with PSG underway

Ange Postecoglou is in serious need of defensive reinforcements at Tottenham this January.

Destiny Udogie looks set for an extended spell on the sidelines [via Paul O Keefe, 1 January], further highlighting the need for brand new defenders in North London.

One of the players linked with a January move to Tottenham is Škriniar, with his current side Paris Saint-Germain thought to be willing to subsidise the centre-back’s wages to move him on this month.

Unfortunately for Postecoglou, it looks as though Spurs could miss out on the Slovak, with Florian Plettenberg reporting via his personal X account on Wednesday (1 January) that talks are ongoing between PSG and Galatasaray over a loan deal.

However, as of now, nothing has been signed, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still wants Spurs to try and sign the 29-year-old.

“It would be a bit risky to sign him permanently straightaway,” Wenham said.

“However, I think Tottenham would be wise to sign the player on loan with an option or obligation to buy, just as Galatasaray are looking at doing. That seems like a sensible deal.

“We’ve done that with other players over the years such as Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero and Dejan Kulusevski. Therefore, the club should look to do it again with Škriniar.”

Tottenham to miss out on Paris Saint-Germain defender Milan Škriniar?

Postecoglou looks as though he is facing the sack in North London. Therefore, he will be more desperate than anyone for new recruits to be brought in during January.

Škriniar could be a fantastic addition to the Spurs squad considering his experience and quality, even if he is just used as a stopgap until the end of the season.

However, if he is going to be brought to North London, the club need to act fast and Postecoglou should already be banging on Daniel Levy’s door.
