Tottenham urged to get rid of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as transfer update emerges

Tottenham must attempt to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer if the club are to reach the “next level” under Ange Postecoglou, Paul Robinson has said.

According to talkSPORT [30 May], AC Milan and Juventus are interested in securing the 28-year-old midfielder’s signature, with Spurs open to offers this summer.

Despite making 36 Premier League appearances during Postecoglou’s first season in charge, 24 of them have been substitute cameos, with Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr preferred.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I don’t think he’s a player that the manager would immediately want to get rid of. He’s done a great job every time he’s played this season, and he’s someone you know exactly what you’re going to get when he goes on the pitch.

“He’s not necessarily an Ange Postecoglou-type of player, hence the reason that he doesn’t start regularly. But when Spurs want to be a bit more pragmatic, a little more defensive, and protect the back four, he comes in and does a good job.

“I like him – he’s steady. But if Spurs want to go to the next level, he might be a player who needs to move on. He said himself in the last international break that he wants to play more regularly and stay in the Denmark squad, but that won’t happen under Postecoglou.

“He’s a decent player when he starts but if the manager isn’t going to play him regularly, there are clubs in Europe who will look at him. The Premier League is a fast league, so I think the game does pass him by a little bit. A move to La Liga, Serie A or Ligue 1, where the football is slower, he might look an even better player.”

Tottenham to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer

Having racked up nearly 200 appearances since joining Spurs from Southampton in 2020, Hojbjerg has been a decent servant under multiple managers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, with the club set to expand and move forward, it is likely that the Danish midfielder will be left behind despite still playing for his national team.

At just 28 years of age, Hojbjerg still has a lot of playing time left in his career and should be ambitious when it comes to his next club, though Spurs need to move on as they rebuild under Postecoglou.
