Tottenham unlikely to make Timo Werner a permanent addition – Spurs Expert
Tottenham are unlikely to make Timo Werner’s loan stay at the club permanent this summer, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King.
Spurs got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 10 February as Brennan Johnson netted a last-minute winner for the hosts.
Johnson replaced Werner in the 62nd minute as part of a triple change by Ange Postecoglou which saw Son Heung-min and Yves Bissouma make their returns to North London.
Son set up Johnson’s winner, and King believes Werner will find minutes hard to come by now that the South Korea international has returned.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “It will be interesting to see what happens with Werner because to be fair to him he did alright against Brighton, but he just isn’t the finished product and he certainly is no Son.
“I can’t see him playing on the left now that Son is back, which will decrease the chances of him making his stay permanent.
“I would have been surprised to see him stay beyond the summer anyway, I was surprised when Tottenham signed him in the first place.
“I am not sure he is a Tottenham player, and with the players already at the club they’re well stocked in the wide areas, but he is still here till the end of the season so we will see what happens.”
Time up at Tottenham for Werner?
He has hardly had a chance to make an impression at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it already feels as if Werner’s time at the club could be coming to an end.
The German had a difficult time against Roberto De Zerbi’s side as he succeeded with just 50 per cent of his attempted dribbles and only managed to provide one accurate cross into the box from the three which he attempted (Sofascore).
Defensively he also struggled, winning just four of his eight ground duels while he also gave possession away 10 times.
Son will be expected to start every game now that he is back with Richarlison unlikely to be dropped after his impressive form in recent months.
As a result, it leaves very little room in the team for Postecoglou to include Werner.

Spurs do have the option to make his stay permanent, but if the 27-year-old hardly plays any football between now and the end of the season it is difficult to see the North London side taking up that option.
