Tottenham transfer message as big question mark emerges before January

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Tottenham should “definitely” be looking to add a central striker in January to ease the burned on their attacking options, according to Alan Hutton.

Spurs opted not to sign an out-and-out striker to replace Harry Kane when he was sold in the summer to Bayern Munich in a near-£100million deal (Sky Sports).

It has meant the goalscoring burden has fallen on the likes of captain Son Heung-min and Richarlison this season.

Feyenoord ace Santiago Gimenez is one name linked, although recent reports suggested it might take as much as £51.6million to secure his signature (TEAMTALK).

Former Spurs defender Hutton thinks regardless of who it is, Tottenham need to be adding another body up top.

Speaking to Tottenham News, he said: “I still believe they need somebody to come in and be a focal point.

“I think it’s always good to have competition, there’s a lot of pressure on the likes of (Dejan) Kulusevski, Son these kinds of guys to score if Richarlison’s not hitting form.

“You want to see him go on a run, can he keep it up that’s the big question mark over him.

“But it doesn’t matter, even if you go on to score ‘X’ amount of goals you still need somebody else, you need that other person who can lighten the load, so of course they’ll definitely be looking at somebody.”

Richarlison has four Premier League goals to his name this season, with three of those coming in his past two matches as the Brazilian looks to turn his career around in north London.

Son leads the club’s goalscoring charts with 10, with the captain often utilised as a central striker this term as opposed to his favoured position on the left of a front three.

In other Tottenham news, Son can target one player in particular against Everton this weekend.
