Tottenham told to snub Middlesbrough transfer pursuit as Will Lankshear news emerges

John Wenham would prefer Tottenham Under-21 ace Will Lankshear to join an EFL League One side on loan rather than head straight to the Championship.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes a temporary move to England’s second tier next season might come too soon for the 19-year-old.

Lankshear has enjoyed a breakthrough year with Spurs’ Under-21s, with the striker named Premier League 2 Player of the Season on Wednesday (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 22 May).

As per Football League World (14 May), Middlesbrough, as well as a host of other Championship and top-flight European sides, are interested in signing the forward on loan.

But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is not a fan of these links.

“I would rather Lankshear did a loan in League One first,” Wenham said.

“He’s a bit younger than some of the other Under-21 players, and I think the Championship would be too much of a step up at this point.

“I could see him struggling for game time.

“I could be wrong, but I’d rather he did a minimum of six months in League One before making the move to the Championship.”

Will Lankshear can become a star under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Lankshear has been finding the back of the net for fun this season.

As long as he is managed in the right way, the striker could become a goalscoring star in North London.

He has all the potential in the world, and Tottenham must ensure they don’t derail his development.

Sending him to a club where he isn’t going to get many minutes won’t do him any good.

Spurs have to make sure that wherever they send Lankshear, there are some firm guarantees over his playing time.

In other Tottenham news, the club have made a “big statement” after agreeing a new contract in North London.
