Tottenham told to prioritise Conor Gallagher transfer after £42m+ development
Bryan King believes Tottenham should avoid signing Nico Williams and put the money saved toward Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
The ex-Spurs scout feels that the North London side would be better off spending a large chunk of their transfer budget on a player in a central position such as Gallagher, rather than on another wide player such as Williams.
It comes after The Telegraph reported (9 April) that the Athletic Bilbao forward has a £42.8million buyout clause in his contract, with Spurs one of several Premier League clubs interested in potentially triggering it.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – would rather see Gallagher brought to North London, amid reported interest in the 24-year-old.
“I don’t think singing Williams would be a wise investment for Tottenham,” King said.
“There are enough wide players already at the club, I don’t see the sense in bringing in another one.
“Tottenham need to be more focussed on spending that money in central positions, both in midfield and going forward.
“I wouldn’t be focussed on Williams, definitely not for £42.8million. Put that money toward someone else, someone such as Gallagher.”
Should Tottenham sign Nico Williams or Conor Gallagher to play under Ange Postecoglou?
Plenty of supporters would argue that if Spurs want to be ambitious, they should sign both players.
But if it is to be one or the other, that is a decision that Ange Postecoglou will need to make.

The Australian must decide whether he wants to upgrade on his midfield or forward options.
Most importantly, whatever decision Postecoglou makes, Daniel Levy must ensure he respects this decision by backing his manager.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy is ready to let one Spurs player go for £15million.
