Bryan King believes Tottenham should be looking for a replacement for goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The ex-Spurs scout claims a brand-new number two is needed between the sticks in North London.

Forster was handed a rare start by Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham scraped past Coventry City with a 2-1 win in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (18 September).

And King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - was less than impressed with what he saw both from Forster and the team as a whole.

“It looks like it is going to be a long hard season,” King said.

“Spurs weren’t in the game at all. Coventry had chances to kill the game off, but they didn’t, and that is football.

“The two goals that Spurs scored were very well worked. That is the difference between the Premier League and the Championship. One great pass in the Premier League is two passes in the Championship.

“As for Forster, I think Tottenham should be looking for a new number-two goalkeeper the way he is.”

Tottenham to replace Fraser Forster?

Forster looked incredibly shaky against Coventry City. His distribution was poor and he didn't look comfortable from corners either, a common theme for Tottenham in recent times.

However, what was most concerning was when he came running out and clattered into Radu Drăgușin during the second half, with Ben Davies recovering the situation with some heroic defending.

While he won't need to feature regularly, Postecoglou would hope to have a more assured second-choice goalkeeper.

Therefore, the club could look to promote from within, or will perhaps need to dip into the goalkeeping market in January.
