Tottenham told they ‘have to sell’ midfield trio after Ange Postecoglou summer transfer admission
Alan Hutton has told Tottenham that they will have to sell a trio of midfielders including Giovani Lo Celso to reinvest in Ange Postecoglou’s side this summer.
The Lilywhites appear set to miss out on Champions League qualification this season after a miserable run of form in recent weeks has left them adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa and in need of a win against title-chasing Manchester City.
While the transfer window is still a number of weeks away, Postecoglou has already admitted that he will be looking to make plenty of changes to his squad in North London, with several players expected to be given their marching orders [The Times, 8 May]
Although the Spurs boss is yet to suggest who he will be looking to sell come the end of the season, Hutton believes the Australian will be looking to move both Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on alongside other fringe players.
“I mean it is a difficult one,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“You look at the likes of Lo Celso, these types of players who are on the periphery of the squad. It depends on what kind of fee you can get in for them but there will be a number of fringe players there.
“Players like Skipp and Hojbjerg who can do a job, but I think you have to sell them to then reinvest. I think there will be a number of players sold, I’d have to go through the squad to be able to reel off some names.
“I think most people looking at the squad will be able to identify certain players that you have to sell to be able to reinvest.”
Who will Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham sell during the summer transfer window?
It has been clear for some time now that Lo Celso isn’t a player that Postecoglou is particularly keen on. While the Argentinian international has impressed pundits and fans alike this season, he hasn’t been able to hold down a consistent place in the starting XI.
Similarly, neither Skipp nor Hojbjerg have managed to feature regularly since the Australian arrived in North London and there is an expectation they will leave this summer in search of regular first-team football.

Whether or not sides will be willing to pay big money fees for these “fringe” players remains to be seen, but it feels likely that the Lilywhites may have to settle for a cut-price deal just to get their wages off of the books.
Hopefully, suitors can be found for all three players and Postecoglou will be allowed to reinvest that money into his squad this summer so that Tottenham can mount a push for the top-four again next term.
