Tottenham ‘to sign two new defenders’ with Marc Guehi top of the list – Exclusive

Tottenham will be in dire need of reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

All focus for now will be on their Europa League final with Manchester United, and rightfully so, given just how big of a game it is for several reasons.

Not only may Ange Postecoglou’s future hinge on the result, but their ability to recruit top talent could also be hindered if they fail to achieve it.

With that in mind, Paul Robinson has highlighted the backline as one of their priorities after the latest exit news.

Cristian Romero exit will leave Tottenham short

As things stand, it looks all but nailed on that Cristian Romero will be joining Atlético Madrid at the end of the season, and with Tottenham already arguably short at the back, Robinson thinks they will need to sign at least two new centre-backs in the summer.

Marc Guehi was linked in the winter, and the former England international, when speaking to Tottenham News, believes he will be their priority.

He said: “With Romero leaving, it’s looking more and more likely day by day that he’s going to move on. So you could argue that Tottenham are already a centre-half short. Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray are playing most of the season there, with Ben Davies having to fill in. If Romero does go, they’re going to need two more, in my opinion.

“Guehi would be top of the list if they can beat anyone else to his signature. But without Champions League football, finishing 16th, potentially 17th in the Premier League, is that an attractive proposition? Or can Newcastle offer Champions League football and a better salary? And that’s where Tottenham are at the moment. There’s so much hanging on their Europa League success.

Europa League success is a must for Tottenham

Tottenham have no excuses not to go on and win the Europa League, though they will face a massive backlash if they fail to do so, and the same will be said about Man United.

Postecoglou will lose his job, and the likelihood is that Tottenham would lose several other players, and undoubtedly find it even harder to replace them.

The final is a huge occasion for Tottenham, and they can’t let this one slip.
