Tottenham ‘to sign high-quality player’ after brand-new transfer agreed

Tottenham could look to use UEFA Champions League qualification to sign a top player this summer.

Daniel Levy is focused on strengthening Tottenham in time for the new season.

Winning the UEFA Europa League has proven to players that lifting trophies is a possibility at Tottenham.

In addition, Spurs’ success in the Europa League means they have qualified for next season’s Champions League, which has positioned the Lilywhites as a hot destination this summer.

Now, with a big summer ahead, Tottenham are expected to sign a top talent after recent transfer news.

Tottenham miss out on Angel Gomes

Gomes had been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano (6 June), Olympique Marseille have reached a verbal agreement to sign Gomes as a free agent, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire at Lille.

It means Tottenham have missed out on a long-term target. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Spurs might be aiming higher than Gomes after qualifying for the Champions League.

“Personally, I wasn’t that excited about Gomes joining Tottenham,” Wenham said.

“Yes, it was a free transfer, and it made sense, and he would have done okay, but it didn’t fill me with too much excitement.

“However, perhaps this suggests that we’ve decided now that we’re in the Champions League, we’re going to aim higher and make a high-quality signing.”

Tottenham must decide on Ange Postecoglou

It will be difficult for Spurs to secure top transfers without confirming their manager for next season.

While recruiting players is an investment, they are investing as much in Tottenham as the club is in them.

Potential transfer targets will want to know who will be in charge before committing to the Lilywhites. Therefore, the decision on Postecoglou must be made imminently to avoid future transfer upsets.
