Tottenham to reach ‘mutual agreement’ over Postecoglou exit despite win – Exclusive

Ange Postecoglou appears set to leave Tottenham despite guiding the North London club to the UEFA Europa League final.

Postecoglou’s side will take on Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday, 21 May, after beating Bodø/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate in the Europa League semi-finals.

Spurs followed up their 3-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (1 May) with an impressive 2-0 victory at the Aspmyra Stadion on Thursday (8 May).

However, it appears Postecoglou’s future has already been decided despite the 59-year-old leading Tottenham to a European final in the Arctic Circle.

Postecoglou to reach mutual agreement over Tottenham exit

Everybody connected with Tottenham will be delighted after the Lilywhites reached the Europa League final, with Jamie O’Hara taking the opportunity to aim a dig at Spurs’ rivals Arsenal.

While Tottenham’s form in the Premier League has been woeful, Postecoglou can cement himself as a legend in North London by ending Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the Lilywhites and Postecoglou will reach an agreement to part ways at the end of the season, regardless of what happens in the Europa League.

“Postecoglou said he always wins something in the second year,” King said.

“He’s still got to go and win this final, which Tottenham are more than capable of doing. However, according to all the reports and people I’ve spoken to, it doesn’t look as though this is going to save him.

“I think it is now about trying to climb the league, win the Europa League, and then I think it will be goodbye to Postecoglou. He’s an honest manager, and I quite like the way he deals with the press; he speaks his mind, he says it as it is.”

“However, I don’t think winning the Europa League will be enough to save him. There has been nothing from the board or Daniel Levy to suggest that Postecoglou is the future. Therefore, he needs to do his job, win it, and if the chop comes, then he can walk away with his head held high. I think it will be reported as a mutual agreement to part ways in the press release, not a sacking.”

Postecoglou can leave Tottenham on a high

If Postecoglou is going to leave Tottenham at the end of the season, there are few better ways to go out than by winning the Europa League in one of your final matches.

Postecoglou has come under plenty of criticism during his time at Tottenham from fans and the press, and winning a trophy would at least vindicate the former Celtic manager if he does leave.
