Tottenham ‘to pay extra £10m’ amid Gibbs-White issues – Exclusive
Tottenham’s move for Nottingham Forest ace Morgan Gibbs-White has caused major controversy.
Spurs triggered Gibbs-White’s £60million release clause on Thursday (10 July), but since then the situation has descended into a farce.
Forest have reportedly lodged a complaint with the Premier League against Tottenham, with the Reds’ owner Evangelos Marinakis furious.
It is alleged that Spurs approached Gibbs-White without Forest’s permission, while there are question marks surrounding the Lilywhites’ knowledge of the midfielder’s confidential release clause. Therefore, the potential transfer is currently up in the air.

Tottenham face a difficult task to seal Gibbs-White deal
Whether the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit can get a deal done now remains to be seen.
Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that Spurs face a challenge in convincing Forest to sell their star man after the controversy.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I don’t think it is dead in the water, but they are going to have the build some bridges back with Nottingham Forest.
“The situation at the moment, as I read it, seems to be that Forest are going to let Gibbs-White go to Tottenham over their dead body, if they are not happy with the way that they have conducted the operation.
“We don’t know the rights and wrongs of the allegation at all, but I think it is pretty clear that Tottenham are in a difficult place with it, but the bottom line in the end is they have triggered the release clause.
“A lot might depend on what Gibbs-White and his people think, what their view of it is, if they think Forest are blocking a move he wants to make, and the release clause has been met, I think Forest themselves would be in a tricky situation with that.
“You would have to say, at this point in the game, it looks like a difficult deal for Tottenham to push over the line. Would another £10million change your mind about how the operation has been conducted?
“Or are Forest kicking up a bit of a fuss because it hasn’t been a great window for them, Anthony Elanga has gone, and now Gibbs-White could be going. They could have a few issues with a disaffected fan group.”

Tottenham need to be patient
Ultimately, if Gibbs-White wants to join and the release clause has been met, surely it is just a matter of waiting it out until the drama dies down.
Then they can revive the deal, with Levy potentially offering a little extra as a goodwill gesture to calm the volatile Marinakis down.
