Tottenham to hold transfer talks with Oxford United as Scarlett decision looms

Tottenham will need to decide whether or not they want to recall Dane Scarlett from his loan spell with Oxford United.

Scarlett made a slow start to life at the Kassam Stadium but began to find his feet, and looked to have worked his way into the Oxford United first team.

However, since Gary Rowett took over from Des Buckingham in mid-December, the striker has hardly been handed any opportunities to play.

As a result, Tottenham have been backed to terminate Scarlett’s loan deal in January. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the club will hold talks with Oxford United before coming to a decision.

“I think Tottenham will leave any decision until the backend of January,” Wenham said.

“Scarlett has hardly played since Oxford United have changed managers. Therefore, I’d imagine Tottenham will have talks with the new manager to see if Scarlett is in his plans. If there’s any doubt after those talks, then I imagine he will be recalled.

“That way he can be sent somewhere else where he is going to play because he is a player who knows where the back of the net is and just needs the opportunity to show that.”

Tottenham to recall Dane Scarlett from Oxford United?

Scarlett has had a few tricky loan spells over the past few years. Therefore, this latest setback at Oxford United will feel even more frustrating for the young Spurs forward.

It appeared as though he was set to have a productive time with the Championship club after he netted four goals in seven matches. However, once again he has found himself sidelined.

Scarlett is a player with plenty of potential, something which he has demonstrated regularly for England’s youth teams, and everybody connected with Spurs, including Ange Postecoglou, will no doubt want to see him succeed.

Therefore, if he isn’t going to be playing regularly at Oxford United during the second half of the season, he needs to be brought back to Tottenham.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou was labelled a disgrace after what happened against Newcastle.
