Tottenham to hold talks with Guglielmo Vicario after what goalkeeper has done
Tottenham are expected to hold talks with Guglielmo Vicario due to Antonín Kinský’s recent form.
Spurs signed Kinský from Slavia Prague in a deal worth about £12.5million [via BBC Sport, 5 January], with Daniel Levy playing a big part in the transfer after he got involved personally.
Kinský’s start to life in North London has been so impressive that he looks to have secured the number two position, with Fraser Forster now expected to leave in January as a result.
However, there is also a good chance that the 21-year-old could push Guglielmo Vicario for his place, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects talks to be held with Vicario as a result.
“Vicario is the first-team goalkeeper,” King said.
“Therefore, once he is fit, he will be expecting to get back into the team. However, it will be interesting now to see how Kinský performs over the coming weeks because it would be good to give Vicario a push.
“Tottenham will now say to Vicario, ‘Look, you’re going to have to work to get yourself back into the team because the player we have just signed is doing really well.’ It is always good to have competition, especially between the sticks.”
Antonín Kinský to replace Guglielmo Vicario at Tottenham?
Vicario has been the undisputed Spurs number one since signing for the club. Therefore, when he got injured, he likely thought that his spot would be waiting for him when he returned to action, with Forster expected to do nothing more than keep his gloves warm.
However, now that Kinský has arrived, it looks as though the Italian has a real fight on his hands.
Forster is out of contract this summer and always felt like nothing more than a backup to Vicario. However, Kinský is young and has just arrived at Tottenham.
Therefore, he will be keen to continue performing well and demonstarting why he should be Spurs’ new number one, and there is no reason why he can’t do exactly that.
As a result, it looks as though Vicario is about to experience pressure he hasn’t yet experienced since arriving in North London.
