Tottenham to allow big-money forward to finalise brand-new transfer

Tottenham are understood to have permitted one player to open discussions about his next move.

Spurs are set to compete in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday (21 May).

Not only would winning this competition mean Tottenham would qualify for the UEFA Champions League, but it would also clarify the moves the North London club can make this summer.

A victory in the final and subsequent European football would give Spurs the financial boost they need to operate more freely in the transfer market ahead of next season.

In the meantime, it appears one player currently in North London is already planning his next move.

Timo Werner could leave Tottenham sooner than expected

Werner has had a difficult time at Tottenham since the North London club re-signed the 27-year-old on loan last summer.

The forward has played just 27 times this season, hardly making an impact, and Tottenham have already decided against signing the German permanently.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Werner will be allowed to head back to Germany before the conclusion of his loan agreement to find a brand-new club.

“Werner’s contract runs until 30 June,” Wenham said.

“However, he will probably be allowed to head back to Germany sooner to start finalising what his next move is, because it is evident that RB Leipzig don’t want him.

“He’s been sent out on loan for two seasons, and he’s still got a year to run on his big, £165,000-a-week contract. Therefore, he will need as much time to finalise his next move and sort something out.”

Tottenham should look to replace Werner this summer

With Werner’s wages off the books, Spurs will have more freedom to operate in the transfer window, and should use that newfound freedom to invest in better players for the squad.

There are several players who would make fine additions. However, if Tottenham want to make a statement, especially in the event of qualifying for the Champions League, the club should look no further than Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

Tottenham have been without their main creative threats for large parts of the season, and James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski’s latest injuries further demonstrate that more options are needed.
