Tottenham ‘to agree substantial reduction’ on Mathys Tel transfer fee

Mathys Tel could make his loan move from Bayern Munich to Tottenham permanent this summer.

A lot of the talk around Tottenham at the moment is about potential exits, with Ange Postecoglou’s future in North London uncertain.

In addition, several high-profile players could leave this summer, such as Cristian Romero.

However, as well as exits, news is now emerging of players who look set to remain in North London after Lucas Bergvall signed a new contract.

And Tel could also be a big part of Spurs’ plans next season.

Tottenham want to renegotiate Tel fee with Bayern Munich

As reported by Florian Plettenberg via X (11 April), Tottenham are considering a permanent move for Tel.

However, the Lilywhites want to renegotiate with Bayern Munich as they aren’t willing to activate the £43-47.5million buy clause in their loan agreement.

Tel has no future under the current leadership in Bavaria, and Bayern are pushing for a sale.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes a substantial reduction on the previously agreed fee between Tottenham and Bayern is possible.

“I think it helps that Bayern want to sell the player,” Wenham said.

“However, they need someone who is willing to buy Tel. Therefore, I could see a substantial reduction on the previous fee being agreed.

“For Tottenham, that would then feel like they’re getting a good deal because they’re paying less than they agreed. Meanwhile, for Bayern, they would get the sale they want, which could help with their rebuild this summer.”

Tottenham should take a chance on Tel

Tel hasn’t exactly lit the Premier League alight since moving to Tottenham. However, he is still an incredibly young player who has joined a club in great struggle.

Therefore, Spurs should still take a chance on the 20-year-old if the fee is right. Tel has proven he has great potential in the past, and in a more stable environment next season, the forward could thrive.
