Tottenham timeline emerges for Son Heung-min contract extension talks
Tottenham are keen to keep hold of Son Heung-min, although talks have not yet progressed.
Son hasn’t had his finest season, recently causing plenty of confusion with his actions after the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite his contract recently being extended until June 2026, the South Korean could still seek an exit from Tottenham this summer, with a Harry Kane reunion potentially on the cards [Fichajes].
However, it appears as though Tottenham have different ideas.

Tottenham to open contract talks with Son in December 2025
As reported by The Times (26 February), Spurs want Son to retire in North London.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t expect any movement on a new contract until the end of 2025.
“From everything I hear, Son is incredibly happy at Tottenham,” Wenham said.
“They’ve got this deal in place now which runs until the end of next season. Therefore, I think this situation will run its course for a little while.
“We probably won’t hear anything until December at the end of this year, ahead of January when Son would be able to discuss pre-contracts with other clubs. Therefore, as I said, I think this will run its course for a while.”

Son could seek Tottenham exit if results don’t improve
Son is no doubt a Spurs legend.
Tottenham | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Son Heung-min | 444 | 172 | 94 |
Therefore, from a sentimental point of view, the 32-year-old could likely be persuaded to extend his stay with Tottenham. However, yet to win a trophy with the club, at this stage in his career, Son could consider a move away.
If big clubs come in for the forward this summer, he might feel as though it is time for a fresh start as he seeks to win a trophy before hanging up his boots.
Therefore, if Tottenham want to convince Son to stay put, results need to improve, and there needs to be a sign that the club captain will have the opportunity to lift trophies in the coming years.
