Tottenham: Teams already ‘watching’ Pape Sarr ahead of potential summer transfer

Tottenham star Pape Sarr will already have scouts from other teams “watching” him in action ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

The 21-year-old midfielder picked up his third assits of the Premier League season in Spurs’ 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on Sunday (10 March) as he whipped in a magnificent ball for James Maddison to break the deadlock in the second half.

Postecoglou’s side now have the chance to move above Villa, into the top four with a win over Fulham on Saturday (16 March) which could be a huge step as Spurs look to book their place in next season’s Champions League.

While Hutton believes teams will already be monitoring Sarr ahead of the summer transfer window, he thinks the 21-year-old won’t be in a rush to leave North London because of the atmosphere created by Postecoglou since his arrival.

“I think all players that are playing at a high level will have people watching them,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“It’s just a part of life, it’s part of football. He’s playing probably his best football since coming to the club as we know. The one thing I would say, if you heard Maddison’s interview after the game and how complimentary he was of the manager, his teammates and how they get on, why would you want to leave that?

“Even if they miss out on the Champions League, they’re building something, they’re going to strengthen again and he’s a main part of that team moving forward. He’ll want to be part of that, he can see what’s coming, and there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“The grass isn’t always greener so I think he’d want to stay under Ange, he’s been a revelation obviously at Tottenham and you can see that in the style of play.

“Yes, there will be people watching him, but I don’t think he’ll want to leave.”

Will Tottenham be able to keep hold of key stars like Pape Sarr without Champions League football?

Following the win over Villa, Tottenham now have the upper hand in the race for Champions League football next season and that could massively change Postecoglou and Daniel Levy’s transfer plans this summer.

Keeping key players in the side is just as important as adding talent to a team, something Spurs know better than most having sold the likes of Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Harry Kane for big transfer fees in the past.

Hopefully, Postecoglou won’t have to replace a player like Sarr after only a season in North London, but it seems clear that those already at Spurs completely buy into what the Australian is building and are in no rush to leave.
