Tottenham surprise emerges after Ange Postecoglou sack decision

Daniel Levy has made a decision about Ange Postecoglou’s position at Tottenham, and it is a decision which has caused some surprise.

Tottenham suffered their 16th Premier League defeat of the season as they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday (3 April).

It was a match which wasn’t short of controversy, with Spurs and Chelsea both facing an FA charge after one incident in West London.

However, what supporters will be most interested in is what Levy has decided to do with Postecoglou.

Levy makes a ‘surprising’ Postecoglou decision at Tottenham

It was another ugly night for Tottenham as Postecoglou once again clashed with his own supporters.

Defeat at Chelsea leaves Tottenham 14th in the Premier League and more or less ends any distant hopes the North London club had of qualifying for Europe next season via their league position.

As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is surprised that Postecoglou is yet to be sacked by Levy.

“People have quite rightly been talking about Postecoglou’s gesture to the away end,” Wenham said.

“It is strange that your immediate reaction after scoring a goal is to seemingly aim a dig at your own fans, rather than celebrate with your staff and players.

“It is not a good look, is it? This isn’t the first time Postecoglou has clashed with the supporters, either. Look at the cold hard facts: 34 points from 30 games for a club of our magnitude, with the resources and money involved, is simply unacceptable.

“Therefore, I’m surprised he hasn’t already been relieved of his duties.”

Postecoglou needs a miracle to turn things around at Tottenham

Losing to Chelsea is one thing, but the manner in which Spurs were beaten and the Australian’s actions suggest it is a long road back for Postecoglou at Tottenham.

Winning the UEFA Europa League might be the only way the 59-year-old can save himself. However, based on the performance at Stamford Bridge, it is hard to see how Tottenham do that.
