Tottenham striker snubs interest from Italy to sign new contract at Hotspur Way

Tottenham have seen one player commit his future to the club ahead of a summer of uncertainty.

Spurs suffered a 4-1 defeat to Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (25 May), which confirmed the Lilywhites’ lowest-ever Premier League finish.

This came days after Ange Postecoglou led the North London outfit to a 1-0 victory in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United at the Estadio de San Mames (21 May).

After a season of extremes, Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain. However, one player at Hotspur Way won’t be going anywhere this summer, despite interest from abroad.

Ellis Lehane snubs interest from Italy to sign new deal at Tottenham

Lehane enjoyed an impressive season for Spurs’ Under-18s in North London.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (20 May), the 18-year-old has signed a new two-year deal at Tottenham until June 2027.

Romano reports that there was interest from within the UK as well as Germany, while Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – added there was also interest in Italy.

“That is a deal that Tottenham wanted to do,” Wenham said.

“He scored 17 goals this season. There was definitely interest from other clubs; he was heavily linked with a move to Italy as well. Therefore, this was a good deal to get across the line.

“I think Lehane will feature for the Under-21s next season, as one of the strikers alongside Mason Melia, who is joining the club this summer.”

Tottenham must build on new contract for Lehane

With Lehane locked up for the future, Tottenham should continue to strengthen their squad this summer, which means investing in the summer transfer window.

Victory in the Europa League means UEFA Champions League football next season. As a result, Spurs will need to strengthen the squad if they want to achieve similar levels of success in Europe next season.
