Tottenham stars to push for transfers as Spurs face multiple exits – Exclusive
Tottenham are facing a difficult summer transfer window on the back of a disappointing season under Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs are almost certain to miss out on European qualification in the Premier League as they are placed 14th in the table with only nine games left to play.
Having also missed out on both domestic cup competitions, the UEFA Europa League is Tottenham’s only chance of winning a trophy this season and playing in Europe next year.
Ange Postecoglou is facing the axe from Daniel Levy if he fails to win the Europa League, while several players could also walk out of the door.

Tottenham won’t be forced to sell without European qualification
Failing to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season will have serious ramifications on Tottenham’s finances, but that is unlikely to force them into selling some of their players, according to Dan Plumley.
That is not to say there will not be major departures at the North London club as the football finance expert feels players may push for transfers if there is no Champions League football on offer next season.
Competition | Status |
Premier League | 14th with nine games left |
UEFA Europa League | Set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-final |
FA Cup | Knocked out by Aston Villa in fourth round (1-2) |
EFL Cup | Knocked out by Liverpool in semi-final (1-4) |
He believes it could also affect Spurs’ ability to lure new players to the club as top players are certain to want to play in the Elite European competition.
“I think that’s a sensible way to look at it“, Plumley exclusively told Tottenham News.
“We have seen them run up losses in the last couple of years, but we also know that some of that is linked to the stadium as well.
“There’s a bigger picture that we’ve talked about with Spurs in terms of a very low wages-to-turnover ratio – one of the lowest in the league – and that the player cost base has always been under control.
“We’ve talked about their finances and them being in an overall pretty good state in the industry. So, I would suggest the same.“

Postecoglou to lead Spurs to Europa League glory
“I think that kind of ‘have to sell’ argument is going to come down to the players as well a little bit because ultimately the best players want Champions League football nowadays, so I think with Spurs, it’s not necessarily a real financial need to sell,” Plumley added.
“It’s going to be how do they retain some of those players, and also, of course, how do you attract new ones if you’re trying to invest because as we say, the best players were Champions League football.”
It is imperative that Tottenham win the Europa League this season if they want to avoid taking two steps backwards in their progress as a top club.
Postecoglou will be aware that he will not be in charge of the Premier League club unless he leads them to glory in the European competition.
Losing against Eintracht Frankfurt in the quarter-finals next month could well signal the end of his reign as the Spurs manager.
