Tottenham stance on summer Jack Grealish transfer mooted amid Manchester City exit links

Manchester City star Jack Grealish would strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham squad this summer if a deal could be struck, according to Alan Hutton.

While it remains to be seen whether or not the Lilywhites would be interested in securing the 28-year-old’s services this summer, Spurs previously tried to sign Grealish when he was at Aston Villa, but the transfer fell through.

Although Hutton believes the attacking midfielder could add some much-needed depth in attacking midfield if he moves to North London, he isn’t certain Grealish will be in a rush to leave Manchester after lifting the Premier League title again on 19 May.

“I think that number 10 role is one that Jack could play in,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“If James Maddison is not playing or not in form, is there somebody else you could bring in? It will come down to money, Manchester City paid £100million and I was there when Daniel Levy wasn’t willing to spend £20million.

“I know we were coming from the Championship but that was how it was. Even though he’s 28 now, they’re still going to want a substantial fee, which could be the problem.

“I think if Jack goes in anywhere he would make every team better especially when he’s playing at his highest level.

“We’ll wait and see, I think he might just be happy where he is at the moment.”

Tottenham tipped to sign Manchester City star Jack Grealish in the summer transfer window

When fit and firing, Maddison has been one of the most consistent members of Ange Postecoglou’s side during his first season in North London, consistently starting week in and week out, barring his recent dip in form.

However, when the English international has been taken out of the side, Spurs have lacked a presence just behind their front three, especially with Giovani Lo Celso seemingly out of the picture under Postecoglou.

The signing of Grealish this summer could go a long way to helping that issue, while also providing some added depth in the wide areas. However, it doesn’t seem likely that Tottenham would be willing to pay anywhere near the fee required.

Maybe this could be a deal to keep an eye on if City lower their asking price for the 28-year-old this summer, but at this moment in time, it seems a return to Villa Park is more likely than a switch to North London.
