Tottenham: Sky Sports pundit reacts to January transfer window news on ‘true Spurs legend’ Hugo Lloris
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Paul Robinson is “delighted” for Hugo Lloris after the former Tottenham captain secured a move to LAFC during the January transfer window.
The Sky Sports pundit believes the World Cup winner is a “true Spurs legend” and after he was displaced under Ange Postecoglou by new arrival Guglielmo Vicario had to think about himself and his family in heading to MLS.
Robinson is glad that the 37-year-old keeper got to say goodbye to the fans in some capacity – at half time of the 3-1 victory over Bournemouth on New Year’s Eve – but would have loved him to have the chance to play one last time in front of a full house at the home stadium.

Lloris’ contract was expiring in the summer anyway and after 444 Spurs appearances he had virtually disappeared this season, so an exit was on the cards sooner or later.
And Robinson feels the chance at a potential swan song in America would be a suitable way for the 145-cap international to finish his playing career.
He exclusively told Tottenham News: “I’m delighted for Hugo. He’s been a fantastic servant for the club with this performances over the long-term.
“Longevity is the hardest thing to do in the Premier League but he was in the Premier League for a long time to serve the club like he has done.
“Coming towards the end of his career in the last couple of seasons there were mistakes that led to goals, there were errors that crept into his game, but that happens with a goalkeeper.

“When you look at the overview of his time he’s a true Spurs legend, the time that he’s been there, his leadership qualities on the field and off the field as well. He’s been recognised, he’s worn the captain’s armband.
“And I was pleased that he got some kind of a send off although the stadium was half-empty at half time. It was a shame that the last game he didn’t get to play in the stadium and see all the fans, in front of a full stadium, because I think that would’ve been the send off that he deserves.
“I think he’s been fantastic and at his age and stage of career you think about yourself and your family, where your future lies, and that’s exactly what he’s done in going to the MLS.
“It would be a fitting end to a fantastic career, if indeed that’s where his career ends.”
In other Tottenham news, one young talent with high expectations behind him may already be finished at the club.
