Tottenham should sanction Alejo Veliz loan exit on Deadline Day amid David Ornstein update – Spurs Expert
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes Tottenham should allow Alejo Veliz to join Sevilla on loan for the remainder of the season.
David Ornstein exclusively revealed via his personal X account late last night (31 January) that the La Liga side were interested in signing Veliz on loan.
It would be a straight loan with no option to buy, with Spurs set to decide on the offer today.
The Argentinian has been out of action since suffering a knee injury against Bournemouth in a 3-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on New Year’s Eve.
Before this, he had made eight Premier League appearances from the bench for Ange Postecoglou’s side, scoring once, following his £13million arrival from Rosario Central in the summer (BBC Sport, 8 August 2023).
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I presume he’s a backup option for Sevilla. I am guessing they have got someone else in mind, but with the transfer window closing today they will need a few options lined up.
“Having said that, they have made an offer, and in my opinion, we should accept that offer.
“Jamie Donley came on against Brentford and looked sharp, Dane Scarlett is back as well so if there is an option to loan Veliz out then we should, it would be good for his development.
“Sevilla is a massive club, they have a lot of Argentinian players there so it wouldn’t be too difficult for him to settle in either.

“Overall, it would be a good move for him. I am assuming he is close to making a return from injury now so let’s secure a loan for him, and then take him on the preseason tour next summer and see where he is at.”
In other Tottenham news, one player turned it around in the win against Brentford after a “non-existent” first half.
