Tottenham: Sevilla blasted as Alejo Veliz ‘situation’ emerges in La Liga, he’s been told to quit

Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King has accused Sevilla of a lack of honour following their treatment of 20-year-old Alejo Veliz.

Veliz was sent on loan to Sevilla in January but has hardly had a kick of the ball since arriving in Spain.

And this has not gone down well in North London, with Spanish news outlet AS reporting (25 March) that both Spurs and Manchester United, who have sent Hannibal Mejbri on loan to Sevilla, feel as if promises aren’t being fulfilled.

Reacting to this report, King was in full agreement with the two Premier League clubs.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I don’t like what is going on with that situation at all.

“The main thing about sending a player on loan is that he will get some playing time and be involved with the first team, otherwise there is little point.

“A club like Sevilla should be honouring what they are taking on, and it sounds like they are doing the opposite. If I was Veliz, I would get out of Spain as quickly as I could.

“Why would any Premier League clubs going forward want to send young players to La Liga if they’re not going to get game time, they might as well keep the player to train with their first team.

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou must learn from Alejo Veliz’s mess at Sevilla

It is safe to say that Spurs won’t be in a rush to send any of their young stars back to Sevilla anytime soon.

Veliz has played just 23 minutes of football since arriving in La Liga this past February, yet to have made a start, while Mejbri has played 89 minutes, having made one start.

As a result, it is understandable why both United and Spurs are frustrated.

A lot of money was invested in Veliz in North London, with Tottenham paying Argentinian outfit Rosario Central £13million for the then-19-year-old back in August (via BBC Sport, 8 August).

Considering their investment, Spurs will want to ensure Veliz’s development is handled in the right way, and this has not been the best of starts.
