Tottenham set to revisit Andy Robertson transfer after Destiny Udogie exit latest

Tottenham could bring Andy Robertson in on a free transfer in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham had a £5million bid accepted for Robertson in January, but the move fell apart due to a lack of defensive cover on Merseyside.

That would leave Destiny Udogie in a difficult position, given that Robertson would surely expect to start if he came to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The new manager, perhaps Mauricio Pochettino, would surely choose the Reds man due to his experience at the top level.

What was Udogie exit claim for Tottenham?

John Wenham already explained how Gugliemo Vicario could leave Spurs, and he thinks that could have a knock-on effect.

He thinks it may push an Udogie departure through, allowing the Lilywhites to bring in Robertson after their winter interest.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “Destiny Udogie has constant injuries; he is a very good player, but not available enough.

“With Vicario possibly going, you know, a fellow Italian, a good friend of Udogie, he could be another one who could move on this summer.

“Robertson will still be available on a free in the summer [if he does not sign an extension at Liverpool].

“I probably expect Tottenham will revisit that situation and try to get Andy Robertson in as well. Yeah, I think it makes sense, especially with the experience he brings to the squad.

“It’s something we desperately need, we’ve got all these fantastic young players, we need some proper experience in the squad.”

Why Robertson in, Udogie out, makes perfect sense for Tottenham

Obviously, as Wenham states, Spurs and whoever comes in to take charge need more experience in the squad.

Robertson has 325 appearances in the Premier League and 64 in the Champions League, with two winners’ medals for the former and one for the latter.

That is the kind of player that the Lilywhites need to bring, and Udogie does not have anywhere near that level of experience.

Another factor is that Robertson was one of the best attacking full-backs in the division at the peak of his powers, and he could help Souza to develop his game and tear up the English game eventually, when the Scotsman moves on.

It would be a very clever move to bring in the veteran defender and allow Udogie, who has missed 41 games in three seasons, to leave.
