Tottenham: Pundit shares ‘surprised’ Bryan Gil exit verdict as new transfer update emerges
We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Alan Hutton admits he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see Bryan Gil leave Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window and expects the winger to try and push through a deal.
Reports from Spain have suggested that the winger has told Daniel Levy that he doesn’t want to complete another loan switch this month and would instead like any potential deal to include an option or obligation to buy [Estadio Deportivo, 14 January].
There are plenty of parties interested in the 22-year-old, with Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Feyenoord and Fiorentina all keeping track of his situation as he looks set to depart the London Stadium during the January transfer window.

While Hutton admits that he feels sorry for Gil, he believes a move back to Spain would be better for the Spanish winger’s career and expects Tottenham to allow him to leave, providing they receive a reasonable fee.
“If the money is right, I wouldn’t be surprised,” Hutton told Tottenham News.
“I kind of feel for him a little bit. He signed for the club and I think he’s a very talented player, very technical and I think the likes of Spain suit him and his attributes better.
“But I think when he’s been called upon, I think he’s done well. The problem is that he doesn’t get a long run in the team because there are so many people that are in front of him at this moment in time.
“So I think if Sevilla were interested, I think it is something that he would be really happy with and I understand why he would try and push that through.”

Gil has only made nine Premier League appearances this season, with only two seeing him start. The arrival and immediate introduction of Werner seems to suggest he isn’t likely to feature more in the second half of the campaign.
Having had a reasonable loan spell with Sevilla in the second half of last season, a move back to Spain may be the perfect solution for all parties, especially if Tottenham are able to receive a reasonable fee as suggested by Hutton.
In other Tottenham news, Hutton has tipped one Spurs star to step into Son Heung-Min’s shoes “no problem”
