Tottenham: Pundit feels sorry for journalists as Ange Postecoglou hailed for what he said

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been hailed by Alan Hutton for his response to a Sky Sports reporter following Spurs’ disappointing Premier League defeat to Fulham.

Postecoglou’s side missed the chance to move ahead of Aston Villa and back into the Premier League’s top four ahead of the March international break as they were beaten 3-0 by Marco Silva’s side at Craven Cottage.

After the game, the Australian was asked by Sky Sports [16 March] just how big a dent the loss was to Spurs’ push for Champions League football to which he replied: “It’s all over so we’ll just go for sixth, what am I supposed to say to that.”

While Hutton has praised the Tottenham boss for his “honest” response he has admitted he feels sorry for interviewers who have to listen to “boring” answers from the majority of footballer and managers after matches.

“I think he has to be honest,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“He says what he wants to say and he says what he feels and I think that is ideal and the comment [after the Fulham game], I think that’s brilliant, what do they expect him to say to it?

“I think it’s a breath of fresh air and I do feel for journalists at times because I’ve been there and done it myself where you say, ‘We’re only concentrating on the next game, we can only do on what we can do we can’t focus on what’s written about us’ and it must be boring writing the same stuff all the time.

“For Ange to come out and really say what he feels, whether Spurs are good bad or indifferent he will tell you. That must be brilliant to report on somebody like that.”

Will Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham qualify for the Champions League this season?

Whether Postecoglou will admit it or not, the defeat to Fulham was a step in the wrong direction for Spurs after their win over Villa as they missed the chance to take some incredibly valuable momentum into the international break.

That doesn’t mean the race for the top four is over, however, as Spurs showed against Unai Emery’s side that they can be destructive going forward when required and that they have more than enough quality in their ranks to beat anyone they’ll face this season.

Postecoglou has been an entertaining presence since arriving in North London last summer, both off and on the pitch and Spurs fans will just be hoping that his side have enough left in the tank to get over the line this term.
