Tottenham: Permanent Troy Parrott exit on the cards as Ajax transfer update emerges

Tottenham striker Troy Parrott may be set to complete a permanent transfer away from North London during the summer transfer window, according to Alan Hutton.

The 22-year-old forward has enjoyed an excellent loan spell away from North London with Eredivisie side Excelsior, where he has managed to score seven goals and lay on three assists in 20 league appearances.

Reports emerged from Ireland [The 42, 9 February] that Parrott’s performances this season have put him on the radar of several Dutch clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with both Ajax and PSV weighing up a move for the striker.

While Tottenham seem willing to let the Irish international depart permanently, Hutton thinks the 22-year-old has an opportunity to force his way into Postecoglou’s thinking and mirror the quick rise of Harry Kane.

“He’s shown so much promise and he’s had opportunities,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“But it’s not ever quite worked and injuries have come back to push him down the pecking order so he’s gone out on loan. It’s been difficult, all he’ll really want is a good run in the team to show exactly what you’re capable of.

“You saw it with Harry Kane when he was younger, how many loans he went out on before he came back and did what he did at the club. I think there’s an opportunity for him, but for young players, it all comes down to when you get that opportunity what are you showing the manager?

“Are you capable of doing better than what’s already there? It’s down to him, again, pre-season could be a time when he needs to show the manager what he’s really capable of.”

Will Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham sell Troy Parrott in the summer transfer window?

Parrott has shown that he knows where the net is in European football this season, but it remains to be seen whether or not he is as good as, if not better than the current forward options in North London.

With Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Timo Werner all impressing under Postecoglou in recent weeks, it may be hard for the Irish international to hold down a consistent place in the Tottenham side week in and week out in the Premier League.

So much could depend on whether or not Spurs decide to make Werner’s stay in the Premier League permanent. If the German makes the switch, it could well spell the end for Parrott at Spurs.
