Tottenham now ‘highly unlikely’ to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea amid Armando Broja update – Spurs Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes a deal which would see Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher join Tottenham before the transfer window shuts is now “highly unlikely”.

The Englishman’s potential switch from West London to North London has been one of the ongoing transfer sags of the January window.

As reported via X by The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg (30 January), Tottenham had still been considering making a move for the 23-year-old this week before the transfer window shuts at 11 pm on Thursday 1 February.

However, it appears that developments are being made in Armando Broja’s move away from Stamford Bridge.

As reported by The Standard (1 February), the Blues are now willing to accept a loan move for the striker, which would require potential suitors to pay a fee of £5million.

And Wenham believes this could have an impact on Spurs’ pursuit of Gallagher.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I thought a deal was still likely until this morning. Just last night I was telling people that I could see Spurs ringing Chelsea and making a £40million take it or leave it offer.

“However, I’ve now seen that Chelsea are getting closer to offloading Broja.

“That would be big for Chelsea because he came through the club’s academy, so just like Gallagher, any potential sale of the forward would count as 100 per cent pure profit which would help their financial struggles. If he was to secure a loan move, that would increase the chances of a permanent exit in the summer perhaps.

“As a result, I now think it is highly unlikely that Gallagher will be joining Tottenham today.

“It is unfortunate, but if he doesn’t sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge, then I hope that Spurs revisit that deal in the summer because I do think he would be a fantastic addition for us.”

In other Tottenham news, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Spurs could make a successful hijack for the transfer of a talented youngster on deadline day.
