Tottenham: New Alejo Veliz loan exit on the cards amid ‘Difficult Situation’
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes Alejo Veliz will be sent out on loan again next season after the “difficult situation” the Tottenham forward found himself in this year.
Veliz joined Spurs from Argentinian outfit Rosario Central last summer for a fee of £13million (via BBC Sport, 8 August).
He struggled for minutes during the first half of the 2023/24 season under Ange Postecoglou, scoring just once in the Premier League in a 4-2 defeat against Brighton at the Amex Stadium (28 December).
Veliz was sent on loan to Sevilla in January (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 1 February), although the move has not gone how the 20-year-old or Tottenham would have liked it to.
Amid his struggles in Spain, Wenham has shared what he feels will happen to the striker next season.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “With Dane Scarlett returning to the club in January, Spurs were unable to loan him out again.
“That left Veliz in a difficult situation and unfortunately, we ended up sending him out on loan to Sevilla, which has proven to be a waste of time for everyone involved.
“I think Spurs are likely to finish in a Champions League place this year, so I don’t think there’ll be a lot of game time for Veliz at Tottenham next season either.
“With that being said I think he will be sent out on loan again, but this time it needs to be with an English team.
“There is no good in him going abroad, we need to know what he can do in England.”
Ange Postecoglou must ensure a plan is in place for Alejo Veliz at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Spurs paid a considerable amount of money to bring Veliz to England considering both his age and lack of experience in European football.
They clearly rate him highly as a prospect, and after a wasted debut season in North London, Spurs must ensure they get Veliz’s development back on track.
After signing the likes of 18-year-old Lucas Bergvall and 17-year-old Luka Vuskovic, it is clear that Spurs are trying to attract young talent from around the world to Hotspur Way.

If they want to continue working in this way, they must prove there is a pathway for young players in N17.
In other Tottenham news, Wenham has been blown away by a Daniel Levy “masterclass” amid a contract prediction.
