Tottenham must strike £100,000-a-week agreement to beat Newcastle United to Lloyd Kelly

John Wenham is keen for Tottenham to sign Lloyd Kelly but feels Newcastle are in “pole position” to land the defender.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the Magpies will be prepared to offer the 25-year-old a contract worth £100,000 per week.

It comes after Fabrizio Romano revealed via X (22 May) that Newcastle are advancing in their pursuit to sign Kelly as a free agent, with a deal “almost there.”

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is keen for Spurs to compete with Eddie Howe’s side for Kelly’s signature.

“It looks as if Kelly could be joining Newcastle,” Wenham said.

“He is someone I would be keen for Tottenham to sign, especially as he can cover two positions.

“But as I said it seems like Newcastle are in pole position to sign him at the moment.

“Tottenham would need to match their offer, and I expect that they will offer him a contract worth more than £100,000 per week, as there is no transfer fee involved.”

Lloyd Kelly would be a useful option for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Kelly would be a perfect addition to Postecoglou’s squad in North London.

However, he is unlikely to be a first-choice option.

Therefore, if Newcastle can make the Englishman more guarantees over playing time, that could also influence his decision, as well as money.

While Kelly would be a welcome addition at Spurs, it appears as if the club might need to look elsewhere.

In other Tottenham news, the club are to sell Richarlison and bring in Ivan Toney following a transfer reveal.
