Bryan King has insisted that Tottenham must sign more experience before August 30 after links emerged to ex-Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto.

It comes after Mundo Deportivo reported that Spurs have held talks with the Spanish free agent already, although they decided not to go ahead.

The ex-Spurs scout admitted that after several younger players were signed, they all can't be thrown in at once with the experience needed to balance that out.

"They must do [sign an experienced player]," he exclusively told Tottenham News.

"They can't only just bring in kids because if things do go wrong, you can't use the best youngsters you have brought in all in one hit.

"These players have got to be nurtured and brought in at different times of the season, which suits the club and player.

"Spurs' back four at this moment in time is quite solid, they seem to have cover in most positions, and if they are going to bring in experience, these are the kind of players that you need to bring in."

Ange Postecoglou has clearly targeted youth this summer, with Archie Gray and "incredible" Lucas Bergvall the two big additions in that area.

After spending a club-record fee on Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth [Duncan Castles], Spurs may look to the cheaper market for more reinforcements, and that is where Roberto came in.

This is certainly something to watch with the Lilywhites set to kick off their Premier League season against Leicester on August 19.
