Tottenham must not ‘Rush’ Luka Vuskovic despite his ‘Impressive Progress’ in Poland
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has warned Tottenham not to “rush” Luka Vuskovic into the first-team picture when he arrives in North London despite his “impressive progress” in Poland.
Tottenham paid Hajduk Split £12million to bring the then 16-year-old Vuskovic to the Premier League (Evening Standard, 25 September).
However, British clubs are prohibited by FIFA rules from signing any overseas players under the age of 18, which means Tottenham must wait until 2025 for Vuskovic to join the club.
In the meantime, the defender is playing his football in Poland with Radomiak Radom, and despite his impressive displays with his temporary side, Wenham has warned Spurs to take things slow with the centre-back.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “It is hard to say if Vuskovic will get straight into the first team when he arrives at the club.
“A lot of it depends on what competition we’re in at the time. If we’re playing Europa League football then perhaps, if we’re in the Champions League then probably not.
“If there’s a club in England which would be willing to give him guaranteed game time, which I’m sure there will be based on the impressive progress we’ve seen thus far, then I would be looking for Spurs to put him on a season-long loan out in English football.
“It is important to remember that there is no rush, he is very young so Spurs must ensure they handle his development in the right way.”
Will Luka Vuskovic be ready for a first-team place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2025?
Although he will still be 18 when he does arrive in North London, Vuskovic will be far more developed than the majority of players his age in the Premier League.
After his experience with Hajduk Split, and now his time out on loan in Poland as well as another season ahead of him before he arrives at Hotspur Way, Vuskovic will have plenty of first-team experience around Europe.
That will certainly put him further ahead in the pecking order than the other youngsters in N17, but it doesn’t mean that he should be thrown straight into the first-team picture.

Playing in England and the Premier League is a different ball game to Poland and Croatia, and Ange Postecoglou must ensure that Vuskovic’s development is handled in the right way.
