Tottenham must make Douglas Luiz ‘number one target’ amid Juventus exit news
Tottenham have been urged to make Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz the club’s number-one transfer target.
As reported by Tutto Juve (8 January), Ange Postecoglou’s side are considering a move for the 26-year-old in the winter transfer window.
Luiz is thought to be “unhappy” at Juventus and could consider a return to the Premier League depending on what kind of offer he receives.
As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wants Spurs to place the Brazilian at the top of their transfer shortlist.
“Luiz would instantly improve us,” King said.
“He’s far better than someone such as Yves Bissouma, for example. Luiz is a proven Premier League player. He’s also good at taking set pieces, he’s got leadership skills.
“If you asked me who I think Spurs need to make their number one target this month, someone who is realistic, it would be Luiz. He was Aston Villa’s best player, no question about it.”
Tottenham to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz?
Plenty of supporters would likely argue that Spurs’ midfield isn’t in desperate need of reinforcements.
Postecoglou would probably prefer defenders or forwards to be signed, with the Australian more short of options in those areas. However, if a player like Luiz becomes available, Spurs should be all over it.
While he is a midfielder, he is arguably a better midfielder than most of the club’s current options.

And while things haven’t worked out for the former Villa star in Turin, he has already proven that he knows what it takes to be a top Premier League player.
