Tottenham must find a way to beat ‘phenomenal’ Aston Villa – Expert

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

Tottenham cannot afford to lose against Unai Emery’s “phenomenal” Aston Villa side, according to John Wenham, when the two teams meet on Sunday 26 November.

Spurs have lost two on the bounce following a positive start to the season which saw them come through their first ten matches unbeaten.

Injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven look set to derail Spurs’ season and Ange Postecoglou’s incredible start to life in England.

With a tough run of games to come, Wenham believes that the match with Villa on Sunday is a must-win game and he’s relieved the game will be playing in North London due to the Midlands club’s perfect home record so far.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I know Aston Villa are getting a lot of praise from a lot of people at the moment but when they’ve gone to the big away games this season, they have lost – and lost heavily – so that should give Tottenham some confidence.

“It is their home form which has been phenomenal, they have been grinding out a lot of wins at Villa Park, so I’m pleased this match is being played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“They did beat us at home last year, which was really disappointing, and Spurs will want to put that right, but it will certainly be a tough game.

“Tottenham have to get back to winning ways, especially with a trip to Manchester City to follow, we cannot afford to lose four on the bounce.

Sunday is a must-win game if we want to keep that positive momentum and continue our charge towards a top-four finish.”
