Tottenham must complete ‘no-brainer’ Antonio Nusa transfer as Sky Sports share new £25m January update

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland right-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Alan Hutton has urged Tottenham to complete a deadline-busting January transfer for Club Brugge’s Antonio Nusa after his move to Brentford stalled, labelling it a “no-brainer”.

The 18-year-old had looked set to join Brentford in the final days of the transfer window, but complications arose during his medical that has seen the £25million deal stall and therefore open the door for other teams to be able to secure his services [Sky Sports, 30 January].

Tottenham News reported that Spurs remain keen on signing Nusa before Thursday’s (1 February) transfer deadline, with Fabrizio Romano (20 January) sharing that Ange Postecoglou’s side are still pushing to get a late deal over the line.

While Hutton admits that he would be wary of signing a player without knowing why he had failed the medical, he has urged Spurs to act quickly to secure the highly-rated youngster in the final days of the transfer window.

It’s an interesting one, I’d like to know what he failed the medical on,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“I think he’s only 18 so there can’t be that much wear and tear. I’ve heard obviously at Brentford he was guaranteed more first-team football and that’s why he chose them over Tottenham which is understandable.

“He looks a real talent, a really exciting player. I’ve seen him play a few times, obviously, he was brought into the Norway squad as well and has been really good, but that’s kind of thrown a spanner in the works with the medical.

“It will be interesting to see how that pans out but if Tottenham could get a hold of somebody so young with that much potential, I think it would be a no-brainer. But I would have to see what the medical flagged up.”

In 16 matches for Club Brugge this season, Nusa has managed to score three goals and pick up two assits while impressing for Norway having been handed his maiden senior appearance last summer, registering three goal involvements in as many games.

Whether or not Tottenham will swoop into secure his services after his move to Brentford stalled at the final hurdle remains to be seen, but it is clear Hutton remains convinced it would a be a wise piece of business for Postecoglou’s side.
