Tottenham may have already hinted at Mauricio Pochettino manager return – here’s why

Mauricio Pochettino is the name on most Tottenham supporters’ lips heading into the summer.

Pochettino led Tottenham to the Champions League final in the 2018-19 campaign, with a brilliant team featuring the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

The Argentine is currently in charge of the United States national team, but the clamour for him to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium refuses to go away.

Spurs may have hinted at a comeback for the 54-year-old already after something which happened in North London recently.

Why Conor Gallagher signing hints at Mauricio Pochettino return

John Wenham believes that the signing of Gallagher in the winter window may have set the foundations for Pochettino to return.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think Tottenham are very much in the market for Pochettino, I put a tweet out this week where a rumour had come out that Conor Gallagher is on £200,000 a week and people were complaining about that.

“How can it be that a club that has always so drastically underperformed on wages is now finally paying an amount of money to get a player? There were very advanced talks to go to Aston Villa, reportedly.

“Tottenham came and paid the money and obviously offered the better package to secure the player, this is the guy that was Pochettino’s captain at Chelsea.

“You can’t tell me they weren’t thinking a little bit about the future of the club and how that’s going to look.

“If Pochettino comes back to Tottenham and has this rebuild in the summer that we obviously need, at least he’s got the guy that he picked as his captain at Chelsea there, who had outstanding form for him.

“I think it will be Pochettino.”

What has Pochettino said about Tottenham return?

Pochettino broke his silence on a potential comeback to N17 last week.

He seemed to leave the door open to a stunning return, with a new admission made when speaking to Spanish radio programme Radiogaceta de los Deportes.

He said: “There are always rumours, I’m always linked [to clubs].

“To Tottenham, just like at one time I was linked to Espanyol, or to other clubs.

“In the end, especially because of my past at those clubs, when things aren’t going well, people tend to fall back on emotions and say, ‘Well, with Mauricio we played good football,’ or whatever it may be.

“But no. We’re focused on the World Cup, on the United States. My contract runs until after the World Cup, so after that we’ll see what might happen.

“Open to everything, right?”

Therefore, the USMNT boss has not ruled out a sensational second stint in the dugout with the Lilywhites.

If anybody could take the club out of the mess that they are in, it would be the former Argentina international, but it remains to be seen whether he takes the role.
