Tottenham: Manchester United ‘watching’ Ange Postecoglou as new Erik ten Hag update emerges

Manchester United will be watching Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou ahead of a potential manager switch this summer, according to Alan Hutton.

Since arriving at Tottenham from Celtic in the summer, Postecoglou has managed to transform Spurs and has helped them as they look to make a return to the Premier League’s top four and Champions League football.

While it remains to be seen whether or not Erik ten Hag remains in post at Old Trafford, reports have suggested Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos have refused to rule out an ambitious approach for the Spurs boss, alongside other candidates [ESPN, 22 March].

Although Hutton admits United will be keeping close tabs on Postecoglou’s work in North London, he has admitted he expects the Australian to still be in charge at Spurs at the start of the next Premier League season.

“It would be a worry,” Hutton told Tottenham News.

“What he’s come in and done at the club has been outstanding in a short period of time. You can understand why other teams would be looking at him.

“He’s got a great personality, I think he deals with the media really well, he talks a lot of sense so he ticks a lot of boxes. He doesn’t look like the type of guy who would be scared about dealing with certain egos within changing rooms and things like that. He’s got a particular brand of football and he sticks to that so I’m not surprised.

“Do I think it will happen in the summer? No. I think he’ll stay where he is and continue to build and then take it from there.

“Manchester United’s situation is a bit up in the air and we don’t really know what direction they’re going in so I’m sure they will be watching.”

Will Ange Postecoglou leave Tottenham for Manchester United?

As Hutton suggested, it doesn’t seem as though Postecoglou would be overly keen to jump ship at Spurs, especially for Manchester United where things are slightly chaotic both on and off of the pitch currently.

However, success will always mean that other teams will sit up and take note of what is happening in North London and there will be a number of teams watching Postecoglou closely whether that be United or even Liverpool.

Hopefully, Spurs will be able to tie him down over the summer and beyond as the Australian has shown with his recruitment and tactics he is more than capable of bringing Champions League football back to the white side of North London.
