Tottenham ‘make behind-the-scenes Vicario arrangement’ after injury reveal
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is closing in on a return to first-team action.
According to an update from reliable Spurs insider Paul O Keefe via his personal X account (4 February), the goalkeeper is “very close” to making his comeback.
Vicario is already back in first-team training at Hotspur Way [via BBC Sport, 29 January] and was recently mooted to make a surprise return in the 2-0 Premier League win against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday (2 February).
However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested Vicario will need to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly before returning to competitive action.
“I’d imagine, that if Vicario is going to make a return soon, he has obviously played in behind-closed-doors matches at some stage,” King said.
“I can’t see him coming straight back in without playing a couple of games. Therefore, I’d think that Spurs have arranged in the last week or so a game or two for Vicario to play in, to see how he is.
“When he is fit, I’d expect him to come back into the team. However, before they can consider his return, he will need to have played games behind the scenes at the training ground. They can’t just throw him straight back in.”
Guglielmo Vicario close to return from injury at Tottenham
Spurs supporters will be desperate to get players back from injury, and Vicario will no doubt be desperate to make a return to action. However, when he does return, he will need to do something he has yet to do at Tottenham – compete for the number one spot.
Antonín Kinský has made a flying start to life in North London, with Tottenham understood to have held talks with Vicario behind the scenes as a result of the 21-year-old’s impressive form.
Vicario isn’t thought to be very happy about the situation, with a potential summer exit mooted.

Therefore, as soon as he can play again, he will need to remind everybody of his quality and most importantly, demonstrate to Postecoglou why he should be the undisputed number one at Tottenham.
