Tottenham: Long-term Micky van de Ven injury concern emerges after what he did v Aston Villa

Ex-Tottenham employee Bryan King fears that Micky van de Ven might have once again injured his hamstring during the clash with Aston Villa.

Ange Postecoglou’s side claimed a big three points with a 4-0 win against Unai Emery’s men at Villa Park on Sunday (10 March).

Goals from James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-min and Timo Werner ensured that Spurs took control of the race for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Tottenham are now two points behind Villa and the Premier League top four with a game in hand over their rivals from the West Midlands.

Despite what was an otherwise perfect afternoon for the visiting side, they will have still left with a sense of frustration among the team after van de Ven was forced off with an injury early in the second half which has left King fearing the worst.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “It was concerning to see van de Ven forced off, the way he was laying there it looked as if he had hurt his hamstring again.

“He was holding his hand between his hip and his knee, around the hamstring area, and I hope that he doesn’t have the same problem as he had before.

“This would not be a good time for the injury, it would be a big blow for Tottenham to lose him at this stage of the season.”

Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou will need Micky van de Ven if they want to qualify for the UEFA Champions League

Although Postecoglou’s men won the battle at Villa Park, any long-term injury to van de Ven could see them lose the war.

There will still be plenty of twists and turns between now and the end of the season and although Spurs have put themselves in a positive position, they still need to capitalise on that position.

Losing van de Ven could make that very difficult. During the first half, the Dutchman showed how important he is to Spurs with some brilliant recovery challenges in which he matched the pace of Ollie Watkins.

Micky van de Ven enjoyed a strong debut season for Tottenham.

Villa and Spurs look set to fight tooth and nail for a Champions League place between now and May, and van de Ven will be needed.

After a serious injury earlier in the season, the 22-year-old will hope he is not sidelined for too long this time around.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou will demand more from one 82% Spurs ace despite his “brilliant” moment against Aston Villa.
