Tottenham: Lilywhite Rose shares Champions League prediction after what happened on Thursday
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes that Tottenham cannot “rely” on the Premier League getting five spaces in the UEFA Champions League next season despite West Ham’s win against SC Freiburg
Following the Hammers’ progression to the final eight of the UEFA Europa League at the expense of German opposition, it has been heavily suggested that the Premier League will get an extra spot in the 2024/25 Champions League.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are currently fifth, six points ahead of Manchester United and two points behind Aston Villa with a game in hand over both sides.
Spurs are therefore well-positioned to finish in the top five, although Wenham believes that the club must ensure they continue to push for a top-four finish.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “From Tottenham’s point of view, we can’t rely on fifth place.
“I know it’s been mooted a lot after West Ham’s win that the Premier League will get five places, but we don’t want to rely on that.
“Spurs just need to ensure they finish fourth and I think they will do that.
“I just feel like as a club now, confidence-wise, we’re on a real positive trajectory.
“We really landed a knockout blow on Aston Villa, and I think we will now go on to finish in the top four and we won’t have to worry about what happens with the fifth spot.”
Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou must ignore external factors in the race for UEFA Champions League football
Spurs are well-positioned to finish above Villa in fourth, and there is no reason why they should allow any outside noise to distract them.
If the players believe that a top-five finish will be enough, complacency could start to set in which could lead to a downturn in results.
Tottenham still have some incredibly tricky fixtures to navigate between now and the end of the season and even a fifth-place finish is far from guaranteed.

Therefore, Postecoglou needs to ensure his players remain switched on and focused as they look to finish as high up the Premier League as possible, no matter what their rivals do in Europe.
