Tottenham: Lilywhite Rose shares ‘Big Factor’ amid Timo Werner transfer verdict
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose believes the future of Tottenham loanee Timo Werner will play a “big factor” in Spurs’ transfer business this summer.
Tottenham signed Werner on a six-month loan deal from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, which includes an option to make the German’s transfer permanent for a fee of £15.5million.
Werner has featured frequently for Ange Postecoglou so far, starting five of Spurs’ seven Premier League matches since he joined the club, as well as the FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Manchester City, a 1-0 loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (26 January).
The 27-year-old provided two assists and scored his first goal for the club during the 3-1 home win over Crystal Palace (2 March) before adding to his tally in the 4-0 hammering of Aston Villa after coming off the bench on Sunday (10 March).
Spurs will have a decision to make over Werner’s long-term future this summer, and Wenham believes that decision will be a big one.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “In terms of wingers at the club, I do think that there will be some changes in the summer.
“Whether or not Tottenham activate the option to make the stay of Werner permanent, that will be a big factor in any potential signings the club might make.”
Will Tottenham sign Timo Werner permanently this summer?
Spurs must decide where the best value for money lies in the market this summer.
Postecoglou has exceeded expectations so far during his debut season in the Premier League, and the Australian will expect to be backed in the transfer window this summer.
If Postecoglou wants Werner, then Tottenham should make the forward’s stay in North London permanent and if the 58-year-old wants Spurs to look elsewhere, then that is what they should do.

Either way, Werner’s performances so far prove that he at least deserves the opportunity to showcase what he can do between now and the end of the season.
In other Tottenham news, Wenham believes that Daniel Levy must accept a “huge loss” on one “chaotic defender at the club.
