Tottenham: Lilywhite Rose reacts to ‘Major’ injury update on ‘Unbelievable’ Micky van de Ven
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has shared his “relief” after Ange Postecoglou provided an injury update on the “unbelievable” Micky van de Ven.
Spurs enjoyed a positive afternoon at Villa Park on Sunday (10 March) as they thrashed Unai Emery’s side 4-0 to move within two points of the Premier League top four still with a game in hand.
However, it wasn’t all plain sailing in the West Midlands for Postecoglou as centre-back van de Ven was forced off injured early into the second-half.
While speaking to Sky Sports (via the London Evening Standard, 13 March), the Australian provided an update on the 22-year-old’s fitness, saying, “Look, he’s unlikely for this weekend, we don’t think it’s anything major. We’ll probably get some information at the back end of the week, so [he’s] unlikely for Fulham.
“But with the international break hopefully it means he doesn’t miss too much after that.”
In light of this news, Wenham has offered his reaction.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “It is a relief that it looks like we’ll lose him just for the game against Fulham.
“Luckily the international break has come at the perfect time, and hopefully van de Ven is back for the Luton game, who he had some previous joy against having obviously scored in the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road.
“He is so important to us, an unbelievable, amazing player who I am confident will go on to become a mainstay of the Dutch team for the next decade.”
Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham can manage without Micky van de Ven against Fulham at Craven Cottage
After van de Ven missed more than two months of action when he was forced off against Chelsea in the 4-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in November, it is fair to say there would have been a few nervous supporters in North London when he went down at Villa Park.
Therefore, Postecoglou’s admission that he doesn’t feel as if the injury is anything “major” will allow those supporters to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
While it will be frustrating to not have the Dutchman available for the trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham on Saturday (16 March), Spurs should be able to cope.
Radu Dragusin came on at Villa Park with the score still at 0-0 and helped his side to keep a clean sheet.

It was a reminder of how Spurs’ squad has improved drastically since van de Ven’s injury earlier this season, and Dragusin now has a huge chance to prove himself.
