Tottenham: King wowed by ‘incredible’ Son Heung-min moment in win v Crystal Palace

Ex-Tottenham employee Bryan King has labelled Son Heung-min one of “the best finishers in the world” after the forward’s strike against Crystal Palace.

Spurs bounced back from their 2-1 home defeat against Wolves (17 February) by picking up a much-needed three points with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles on Saturday (2 March).

Goals from Timo Werner, Cristian Romero and Son completed the turnaround after Eberechi Eze had put the visitors ahead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While he left it late to have his say, striking in the 88th minute, King was full of praise for the impact Son had on the contest.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “Son’s pass through to Werner for his chance in the first half was incredible, he is a quality player.

“His goal was fantastic too, Spurs will be so glad that he is back and fit.

“When Werner went through I never felt he was going to score and I don’t understand why he went the way he did with the ball. However, when Son went through, I had confidence he would score.

“He was quiet in the first half because the service was poor, but when he is through on goal he is one of the best in the world.”

Son Heung-min is among Europe’s best after his displays at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Son has stepped into the spotlight under Ange Postecoglou this season following Harry Kane’s departure.

Over the past four or five years the influential Spurs stars had been something of a double act in North London, and Son has had to learn to do things himself since Kane left.

He has flourished with that new responsibility, finding the back of the net 13 times and providing six assists in 23 Premier League appearances so far throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

His goal against Palace was a reminder of his exceptional quality in one-on-one situations, and there would have been very few people in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday who didn’t expect the ball to end up in the back of the net when Son went through.

As per fbref, Son has outperformed his expected goals total by 0.16 per 90 over the past calendar year, which leaves him in the top eight per cent of forwards playing in Europe’s big five leagues when it comes to this particular metric.

With the stats to back it up, it would be hard for anyone to deny that Son is one of the best finishers in Europe, and Spurs fans will cherish every moment they get with the 31-year-old.
