Tottenham: King warns Luka Vuskovic of ‘very difficult’ situation in North London
Ex-Tottenham scout Bryan King has warned Luka Vuskovic that the centre-back faces a “very difficult” scenario when he arrives in North London.
Spurs beat out some of European football’s biggest clubs to sign Vuskovic from Croatian outfit Hajduk Split for a fee of £12million (Evening Standard, 25 September).
Vuskovic must wait until 2025 when he has turned 18 to join Spurs as a result of FIFA rules which prevents British clubs from signing overseas players under the age of 18.
As exclusively revealed by Tottenham News back in September, Vuskovic has left Hajduk Split on loan, with the talented 17-year-old currently playing his football in Poland with Radomiak Radom.
Despite his strong recent performances, King believes that Spurs supporters and Vuskovic must lower their expectations ahead of the Croatian’s arrival in the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “The league he is playing in at the moment is probably of a similar quality to EFL League One. I wish him nothing but good luck, but he definitely isn’t playing in one of Europe’s top leagues at the moment.
“When he arrives he will have two of the Premier League’s best centre-backs in front of him and Radu Dragusin, who cost a significant fee. It is going to be very difficult for him to get a regular place in the first-team.”
Luka Vuskovic is one for the future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
It is hard to imagine that Vuskovic will replace either Cristian Romero or Micky van de Ven when he arrives at Hotspur Way.
However, in time, there is no doubt that the centre-back has the potential to become a household name in England’s top flight.
It will be interesting to see how Ange Postecoglou manages the youngster’s arrival.
Although Vuskovic will still be just 18 when he does join Tottenham, he will have far more experience of senior football under his belt than players of a similar age to him at Spurs.

He will likely be keen to integrate himself straight into the first team, but Spurs might prefer to take their time with Vuskovic’s development, perhaps by sending him out on loan to get some valuable experience of English football before he is thrown in at the deep end in North London.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs could be set for a big payday with a potential Postecoglou and Celtic reunion on the cards.
